A question often asked, does Technology help with golf coaching?
Some Coaches actually shy away from using anything that flashes or beeps, it is either too scary, too expensive or they don’t want spend time/money and effort to learn how to use and interpret the output data.
I am a Prime example, using my own swing, I had a right to left ball flight when I played golf, I videoed myself a million times, convinced I was coming over the top I would do drill after drill to come more from the inside to straighten that flight out.
I spent hours trying to stop it, drill after drill.
Then I was playing with a bloke who had a Trackman, I had one swing measured and my path was 6.2 but my Face to path was -2.1.
What does that mean, well I was certainly swinging from in to out, too much actually, but my club-face was closed to that path at impact, hence my ball would always start way left. Also a little off the Toe,
How easy would it have been if I knew that information months earlier, I could have focused on different drills not wasted time on what was NOT happening,
Feel versus real, what I feel may not really be what I am doing, and 2 dimensional video often does not show what is actually happening.
So once I had the correct information, a few drills and Positive Practice.
Club Path and Face much better, a little low on the Face maybe but straighter yay!
Is it for everyone, No, but to have all the facts as a Coach makes it way easier to diagnose a remedy than a guess!
